Colorado Rocks!

I’m hearing many baseball experts project St. Louis as the team to beat in the NL.

No doubt the Cardinals are a tough bunch, but I think the Rockies are a better club.

Colorado has posted both the best second-half record of any NL club (45-27) and the best record since September 1 (20-9).

Not to mention, the fact Colorado still has an opportunity to win the division despite trailing the Dodgers by 15 games this season is simply amazing.

The Rockies have all the tools to win the NL pennant: pitching, hitting and defense.

What’s more, all three units are running hot and working in unison at the most crucial time of the year.

Now whether that’s good enough to beat the AL champion is another matter!

Meanwhile, Detroit has positioned itself poorly for a postseason run.

The club’s loss against the White Sox this afternoon forces Justin Verlander to start the season’s final game.

Had they won Sunday, of course, the Tigers are basically AL Central champions and Verlander is primed to face the Yankees in Game 1 of the ALDS.

As it is, even if Detroit hangs on against the Twinkies they’re best hope to beat New York will be on the bench.

Two weeks ago it appeared the baseball races were on cruise control until the postseason.

Now, here we are at the season’s finish line and two division titles still up for grabs!

Whoever said the regular season was over wasn’t paying attention!
