The first-ever universal champion, Finn Balor, shared his enthusiasm on Twitter after seeing Owens come out on top:
It was a shocking turn of events.
Triple H hadn't appeared on WWE programming since losing to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 32. He arrived at Raw to hit a Pedigree on Reigns, which led to Reigns' elimination. Then, Triple H seemingly set up Rollins for an easy victory—but instead turned the tables on him.
No wrestling fan likely expected Triple H to hold Owens' hand in victory, and numerous questions arose after the main event.

The conclusion many surely jumped to is that Triple H views Owens as his new protege in the same way he took Rollins under his wing.
Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari had another idea in mind:
An NXT angle is plausible, given Triple H's involvement with WWE's developmental arm and the number of NXT alumni on the Raw roster.
In recent years, WWE has struggled to turn Raw into must-see television. With the exception of the post-WrestleMania Raws and a few memorable stretches, most episodes of the company's flagship program have followed the same basic formula and failed to break any new ground.
Monday night may have provided a return to the days when fans clamored for the next edition of Raw as soon as the show went off the air.
But plenty of WWE storylines have shown early promise only to fizzle out. At least Owens' win has fans talking, though, and it opened plenty of intriguing avenues for the future of Raw's main event picture.
