WWE NXT Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from August 24

Erik BeastonAug 24, 2016

The first NXT episode after TakeOver: Back to Brooklyn took fans...back to Brooklyn, New York, for what was essentially a recap show, with two matches intertwined to keep things interesting.

The typically excellent WWE production team did not disappoint, providing fans with an emotional look back at the night's biggest matches, most exciting championship clashes, superb entrances and shocking defeats.

Bayley's war with Asuka was spotlighted, as was Shinsuke Nakamura's NXT Championship victory, but it was the future of the brand that took precedence in between.

Two bright young teams did battle, each jockeying for position in the crowded tag team division, and the ever-popular Perfect 10 of NXT made his presence felt.

Tye Dillinger vs. Wesley Blake

In a post-Alexa Bliss NXT, Wesley Blake's complete and utter lack of character becomes more noticeable with every passing match. Sure, he's a southerner with cowboy boots, but who is he? What are his motivations?

Neither of those questions was answered Wednesday night, as he was beaten and dispatched by wildly popular cult favorite Tye Dillinger.

The Perfect 10 put on a show in front of an appreciative Brooklyn crowd. More importantly, he won, something he has not had the opportunity to do too much during his stint with the brand. He may not have "smack you in the face" charisma, and his in-ring game may be more technically sound than explosive, but the fans of NXT genuinely love him and want to see him succeed.

At a time when characters are constantly being called up to Raw and SmackDown to bolster rosters after the brand extension, Dillinger is the type of performer NXT should be leaning on to help carry the show.

The match between the two sound in-ring competitors was nothing earth-shattering, but it was a demonstration of their underrated skills, which Dillinger won.

Grade: C-

TM-61 vs. The Authors of Pain

In their brief time as members of the NXT roster, Shane Thorne and Nick Miller have been a dynamic addition to the tag team division. Unfortunately for them, they ran into The Authors of Pain Wednesday night.

The encounter did not go their way.

The monstrous newcomers fought off the babyfaces' resilience and ended the match with their clothesline/leg-sweep combination on Miller.

At five minutes, there was little in the way of match construction or storyline development. It was a glorified squash that continued to establish the big men as the greatest threat to The Revival's NXT Tag Team Championships.

Yes, even bigger than Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano.
