WWE Universe shared one of the highlights of the match:

Bleacher Report's Ryan Dilbert saw a silver lining for The Ascension in their performance:

While the tag division is a major focus on Raw, SmackDown has operated at a disadvantage since the brand split because it doesn't boast its own version of the WWE Tag Team Championship.

It appears as though tag titles are forthcoming in the near future for the blue brand, but ahead of that announcement, all six of SmackDown's tag teams had a chance to prove their worth on one of WWE's biggest cards of the year.

The same bout took place on the go-home edition of SmackDown prior to SummerSlam, and it also resulted in American Alpha, The Usos and The Hype Bros coming away victorious.

As the first tag team selected by Commissioner Shane McMahon and general manager Daniel Bryan for SmackDown in the WWE draft, much of the attention was focused on American Alpha at SummerSlam.

Chad Gable and Jason Jordan quickly rose up the ranks in NXT's tag team division and enjoyed a stint as the NXT tag team champions before getting called up to the main roster.

It took a short amount of time for them to click as a team, and it wasn't long before fans were firmly behind them, making them one of the most popular acts to ever go through NXT.

That has led to the assumption that American Alpha will be the first SmackDown tag team champions when the belts are introduced, but the other five teams in Sunday's match showed some flashes as well.

The Vaudevillains and The Ascension are former NXT tag team champions, and The Hype Bros enjoyed some success in NXT. Breezango has showed plenty of personality since forming, while The Usos are two-time WWE tag team champs already.

SmackDown's creative team still has work to do in terms of establishing multiple teams and making them look like credible threats to lead the division.

Sunday was a step in the right direction since every team got to show off its skills, but the key moving forward will be using SummerSlam to create individual storylines that give the fans a reason to care and invest in all six tandems.
