Miscommunication by The Dudley Boyz set up the win for Zayn and Neville, as WWE Universe highlighted:
Bleacher Report's Chris "The Doctor" Mueller provided his take on the match:
With neither Zayn nor Neville listed on the SummerSlam card in the days leading up to the event, WWE announced on a whim that they would join forces to take on one of the greatest and most decorated tag teams in professional wrestling history.
Zayn finally conquered his demons and defeated Kevin Owens at Battleground, but following the brand split, he immediately got lost in the shuffle on Raw and was left without a dance partner for one of the year's biggest shows.
Neville recently returned to action from an ankle injury, and rather than being thrust into a program immediately, the Englishman has been brought along slowly.
With neither Zayn nor Neville in a prime spot creatively, they both had an opportunity to showcase their remarkable in-ring skills in an entertaining match.
The pairing of Zayn and Neville was particularly interesting since they have a long history with each other dating back to their time in NXT.
They had several fantastic matches as foes, and Zayn finally reached the top of the mountain by beating Neville for the NXT Championship.
Their chemistry as opponents was always obvious, but at SummerSlam, The Underdog from the Underground and The Man That Gravity Forgot proved they can get the job done as a team, too.
Raw's tag team division is highly competitive, with The New Day, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, Big Cass and Enzo Amore, and Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens all battling it out.
If there aren't plans in place for Zayn and Neville as singles competitors in the near future, though, they could develop into a top team that few expected to see and become contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship.
They acquitted themselves well against The Dudley Boyz on Sunday, and they likely only scratched the surface of what they are capable of doing together.
Regardless of how WWE opts to utilize Zayn and Neville moving forward, they are two of the best in-ring talents on the roster and figure to excel in any role the company places them in.
