In the weeks leading up to TakeOver, several vignettes aired on NXT programming touting Moon and her arrival in WWE's developmental brand.
Moon added to the mystery and suspense with tweets such as this one:
With her debut date set, Moon still needed an opponent days before NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn II, and NXT general manager William Regal took care of that by granting Billie Kay's request for a match and putting her up against the enigmatic Superstar.
After spending several months on the NXT roster as primarily enhancement talent, Kay found herself on somewhat of a roll entering TakeOver by picking up a couple of victories with her dangerous big boot finisher.
NXT's Femme Fatale looked to do the same against Moon, but it was clear that the level of competition would be higher than what the Aussie was faced with during the build toward TakeOver.
While little was known about Moon's persona before her first match on NXT programming, the person behind the gimmick was previously well-known on the independent circuit.
Moon worked as Athena and made a name for herself in companies such as Shimmer and Ring of Honor before signing a developmental deal with WWE in 2015.
The 27-year-old Texas native is widely regarded as one of the top female talents in wrestling, and there is undoubtedly room for her to ascend to the top of the women's division in NXT.
With little depth around Asuka and Bayley and both of them potentially being on the verge of a call-up to the main roster in the near future, Moon has a chance to instantly vie for or even win the NXT Women's Championship.
Saturday's solid debut and victory was the first step in that direction, and it appears as though the NXT writers have big plans for her as a potential face of the brand moving forward.
