Petition Launched to Send Brendan Dassey of 'Making a Murderer' to WrestleMania

Andrew GouldAug 13, 2016

On Friday, a federal judge overturned murder and sexual assault convictions against Brendan Dassey, a focal point of the Netflix documentary Making a Murderer.

During the series, Dassey, an avid pro wrestling fan, expressed dismay about missing WrestleMania, WWE's annual grand spectacle.

A federal judge ordered Dassey must be released from prison within 90 days if a new trial is not scheduled, so he'll have a chance to watch the event on April 2, 2017. A petition started on Change.org aims to do him one better by sending him to Orlando, Florida, to witness the Showcase of the Immortals.

Dassey, 26, was 16 years old when he was arrested in connection with his uncle, Steven Avery, for the murder of Teresa Halbach. The judge ruled Dassey's "intellectual deficits" and other factors rendered his confession involuntary.

The petition to Vince McMahon and WWE has over 300 signatures as of Saturday.
