Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho vs. Enzo & Big Cass: WWE SummerSlam Winner, Reaction
The recently formed team of Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho had instant chemistry Sunday at WWE SummerSlam, defeating Enzo Amore and Big Cass in a tag team bout.
SummerSlam's Twitter account showed how the match ended:
Robert Littal of Black Sports Online and Aaron Oster of Rolling Stone had different thoughts on the result:
The rivalry between the two sides began on the night of WWE's draft, when Enzo and Cass interrupted an interview involving Owens as part of WWE Network's second-screen experience.
While that was put on the back burner for a couple of weeks, it came back around when Jericho and Charlotte had a disagreement with Amore and Sasha Banks.
Following a mixed tag team victory for Y2J and Charlotte, Big Cass ran down to the ring to prevent Jericho from orchestrating a post-match attack on his tag team partner.
That prompted Jericho to search for some backup in his quest to take down The Certified Gs, and KO stepped up to the plate because of the bad taste in his mouth from the previous interaction he had with Enzo and Cass.
Despite Owens' entry into the feud, Enzo remained fixated on getting back at Jericho for ruining his moment with The Boss, per WWE Universe:
The Prizefighter made it clear that he wasn't there to mess around, though, and took aim at the biggest dog in the fight, via WWE Universe:
While there were no titles on the line, there was a ton of excitement surrounding Sunday's match thanks to the entertainment value all four Superstars provided during the buildup toward the pay-per-view.
Owens, Jericho, Enzo and Cass are four of the best promo men in WWE, and they lived up to that billing by piecing together several hilarious and engaging segments on the road to SummerSlam.
As much as they are capable of talking the talk, the four combatants proved Sunday they can walk the walk as well by putting on an excellent match that continued to build up the credibility of the ever-improving tag team division.
The overarching assumption was that Enzo and Cass would come out on top since they are a full-time tag team, but the victory for Owens and Jericho suggests they could stay together and enter the WWE Tag Team Championship hunt.
If that is the case, the depth of Raw's tag team division would be special, with no shortage of enticing feud combinations moving forward.
Owens, Jericho, Enzo and Cass were great together at SummerSlam, and if their rivalry doesn't continue beyond Sunday, they'll shine brightly as part of different programs.
