Same Old Song and Dance, Red Sox Vs. Angels ALDS

David O'BrienOct 2, 2009

In the past decade, THe Red Sox have dominated the Angels in the post season.

Could this year be different. Of course no one knows for sure but the Angels will be a good opponent.

After the death of young starting pitcher Nick Adenhart the first week in the season, it did not look like the Angels would be in any shape to clinch the AL West.

The Angels were 4 1/2 back in the start of the season. By the end of June the Angels held onto the lead in the West through the rest of the season.

I would not bet against the Red Sox this Division Series but the Angels are going to put up a fight trying to beat the Sox in the playoffs for the first time.

For the first game Lester will face off against John Lackey. The Halos have not yet faced Jon Lester this season.

The Second would be Jered Weaver against Josh Beckett. Weaver has been great this season at Angel's Stadium (9-3, 2.90 ERA) but mediocre on the road (6-5, 5.04 ERA). Beckett has done much better at home this year than on the road. The Angels will have the edge in this one.

The 3rd game would be Buchholz against Scott Kazmir who has shut down the Sox many times before. This will be the first time Kazmir will face Boston while on the Angels.

Assuming there would be a 4th game Dice-K would take on Joe Saunders. Since coming back from the DL Matsusaka has done well for himself.

This is probably the closest matchup than in the past between these two teams.
