Stefan Strawder Killed in Shooting at Fort Myers Nightclub
Florida prep basketball star Stefan Strawder was one of two people killed after multiple assailants shot at least 16 people at a Fort Myers nightclub early Monday morning.
He was 18.
According to a report by Wink News, "at least three people" were placed in custody after the shooting. Their identities have not been revealed. Police also did not say what led to shots being fired outside the nightclub, which was hosting an event for kids ages 12-17.
"There was armed security as well as full security, inside and out. As the club was closing and parents were picking their children up.....that's when all this took place. There was nothing more we could of done az [sic] you see it was not kids at the party that did this despicable act. Our condolences to all parties involved," Club Blu said in a statement.
Sean Archilles, 14, has been identified as the other casualty.
Sixteen people have been treated for injuries at Lee Memorial Hospital. Two remain in the intensive care unit; one is listed as being in serious condition, and another is in critical condition.
“As this kind of activity continues to emerge across our state and the nation and indeed the world, we remain ever mindful of the fact that we’ve got to do better in protecting citizens,” Fort Myers mayor Randy Henderson said, per the Wink News report. “So you’re going to see a substantial continued effort in that regard.”
Strawder was the star point guard for Lehigh Senior High School and a member of the class of 2017.
