Randy Moss Hired by ESPN as NFL Analyst: Latest Comments and Reaction
ESPN bolstered its NFL coverage Monday, announcing that likely future Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss will join two of its flagship shows.
NFL on ESPN welcomed the six-time Pro Bowler with the following tweet:
According to Allie Stoneberg of ESPN MediaZone, the former Minnesota Vikings megastar will be an analyst for both Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown after spending three years in a similar role at Fox Sports.
Per Stoneberg, the 1998 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year expressed excitement regarding his new gig: "ESPN is the No. 1 sports channel in the world! Now I'm a part of a network I grew up running home to watch. The team that has been put together has so much football knowledge to share and I can't wait to get started. I feel very blessed and excited for this opportunity. It's going be a great and fun year."
The addition of Moss is part of a significant overhaul at ESPN in terms of its NFL coverage since last season.
Cris Carter, Ray Lewis and Keyshawn Johnson are all gone from the company, while Mike Ditka was reassigned. In their place, Moss will join a pair of recently retired players in Matt Hasselbeck and Charles Woodson.
Moss spent 14 seasons in the NFL with the Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers.
He ranks third in NFL history with 15,292 receiving yards and second with 156 receiving touchdowns. He also set the single-season record for touchdown receptions in 2007 with 23 as a member of the Pats.
Moss retired following the 2012 season with the Niners and began his career as an analyst at Fox Sports shortly thereafter.
