Indians Perform 'Sacrificial Ceremony' to Baseball Gods to Snap Yan Gomes' Slump

Yan Gomes is in a bit of a slump. 

Well aware of the catcher's .163 performance at the plate, the Cleveland Indians decided to take fate into their own hands Saturday. Their remedy? A sacrifice to the baseball gods.

Jason Kipnis, Mike Napoli, Lonnie Chisenhall and Chris Gimenez pulled together a surprisingly thorough faux ceremony, complete with a makeshift altar and whole chicken.

It began with Napoli reciting "the blessing":

It then wrapped up with a proper sacrificial offering—or a pretty standard store-bought chicken:

To borrow from Kipnis, "may the hits be plenty."
