Latest on Mudiay's Injury

Friday, Oct. 14

The Nuggets PR team announced Mudiay suffered a right ankle sprain.

The No. 7 pick in the 2015 NBA draft, Mudiay averaged 12.8 points, 5.5 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game as a rookie. Flashing elite athleticism and a nose for the basket, Mudiay showed off his immense potential at points. He was also one of the league's worst high-volume jump-shooters and lacked a feel for the game defensively.

Nuggets general manager Tim Connelly commented on the first-round pick's rookie season, per Christopher Dempsey of the Denver Post:

"

Emmanuel has been fantastic. We went into this thing with eyes wide open. We knew there would be a lot of ups, maybe more downs. He’s playing the position that, to me, is the most talent-rich position in basketball. The point guards you face on a night-to-night basis are so impressive. I like his resiliency. I think he’s grown immensely.

"

The Nuggets were mostly quiet this offseason, re-signing Darrell Arthur after grabbing three shooters—Jamal Murray, Juan Hernangomez and Malik Beasley—in the first round of the draft. (They added French big man Petr Cornelie in the second.)

It seems Denver plans on improving on its 33-win season a year ago simply by adding more young core players and hoping the ones it has develop. Mudiay suffering an injury now leaves the team floundering a bit at point guard, as it may force Jameer Nelson to handle some duties if this proves long-term.
