Wimbledon 2016: Men's Final Start Time, Schedule, Prediction and Prize Money

Christopher SimpsonJul 9, 2016

Andy Murray will compete in his third Wimbledon final on Sunday, while his opponent, Milos Raonic, will be making his Grand Slam final debut.

The pair will face off at 2 p.m. BST (9 a.m ET) on Centre Court just weeks after meeting in final of the Queen's Club Championships, which the Scot came from behind to win in three sets.

The winner here will take home £2 milliona 6.4 per cent increase on last year's prize money, per Wimbledon—while the runner-up can expect half that.

Murray will be making his 11th appearance in a Grand Slam final and for the first time, he'll be facing an opponent other than a peak Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic. Indeed, after losing eight of those 10, Sunday represents an incredible opportunity for him.

He made short work of Tomas Berdych on Friday as he cruised through in straight sets—the first time he's done so in a major semi-final.

Former Wimbledon winner Pat Cash hailed his performance:

To get past Raonic, he'll need to overcome Raonic's biggest weapon—his booming serve. He made good use of it as he beat Federer in a five-set epic in the semi-final, as Wimbledon's official Twitter feed revealed:

Tennis writer Christopher Clarey noted the two players' differing styles:

Indeed, it should make for a thoroughly entertaining matchup and add an extra layer of intrigue to the contest.

Murray is well aware that his returning will need to be at its best and spoke of the impact Ivan Lendl has had since returning as his coach. Per BBC Sport's Piers Newbery, he said:

"

Milos returns well and is good off the ground, but it's pretty obvious that he has one of the best serves out there, so my returning will be key.

...

However well I return, opportunities will probably be few and far between on Sunday and I need to be ruthless. That's something I speak to Ivan about it.

It's not as though none of my other coaches wanted me to do that, but it's something he's always made me aware of and been conscious of.

Taking my chances and not letting up on opponents is something I did well when we worked together in the past, and we've started pretty well this time around.

"

Aside from leading Great Britain to victory in the Davis Cup, all of Murray's major successes—his Olympic gold medal and U.S. Open and Wimbledon titles—have come under Lendl, which lends credence to the notion the 29-year-old has more of a killer instinct under him.

He'll certainly need it—Raonic believes he mas more to concern Murray with than just his serve. Per Kate Battersby for Wimbledon's official website, he said: "I've overcome a lot of different things. Those things have made me stronger. Now I have an even bigger tool-set to face that challenge on Sunday than I did a few Sundays ago."

Indeed, as the rally below demonstrates, Raonic isn't just a serve specialist—he can match the best shot-for-shot:

As he showed at Queen's, Raonic has the ability to cause Murray problems, and it's not unreasonable to think he could take at least a set off him on Sunday.

However, he's never won a tournament on grass. Meanwhile, the Scot has played exceptionally well all year and is an accomplished player on the surface—coupled with his experience and ruthlessness, he should pick up his third Grand Slam title.

Prediction: Murray wins in four sets
