What Grandma Suspects Of Dana White

Dorothy WillisOct 1, 2009

Since I have been told by several readers very frankly that I do not know the difference between Shinola and something else someone could get on the bottom of a shoe (in a yard with a dog), I feel impelled to list what I suspect to be true of the man.

Hopefully, my suspicions won't upset as many people out there who love the ground on which Dana walks, (whether a dog has made its presence known or not), as much as other articles I have written has.

Lately, I suspect that the "feud" with Rampage is being milked for everything it can produce, by both men. It could help the draw of TUF 10 and certainly will publicizes the fact that Page will be staring in a movie.

Whether they are actually at war with each other, the issue will continue to remain in the news, bring attention to both the UFC and the A-Team movie. I don't really see a downside here.

If Rampage should return to the UFC, that decision will thrill his fans and encourage Rashad Evans fans to hope that Evans will be able to make Rampage regret going away to make his movie, whether it succeeds or flops.

The lengthy delay of the Hughes v Serra fight did take the edge off of the viewers' anticipation and may not have been what it would have, if it had come more closely following the end of their coaching stint on the TUF series, although we will never know for sure.

Optimist that I am, I think a fight between the two men will draw a huge crowd whenever and wherever it occurs. To me, at least, it would be high on the UFC's must see events of all time.

Dana may not have dreamed this all up and planned it all out, but he, the UFC and both fighters should benefit from all the controversy in the end.

Recently knocking Hershel Walker for being "too old" to be in MMA might be a ploy to hurt the Strickforce organization. Hershel wanting to fight Dana certainly tickled me to death.

What with Tito Ortiz failing to show for the well publicized "fight" with the UFC president, a wise decision in my opinion, and all the viewers who tuned in for the "nonevent" which was aired, Dana missed the punishment he could have endured yet managed to capitalize on the situation anyway.

That Dana can step in it with both feet and still come up smelling like a rose and looking like a hero!

Tom Atencio calling the ex-aerobics instructor out was also quite comical, even though Dana managed to duck the tee-shirt guy with some trash talk and fancy footwork, probably learned during his boxing days as a young man. Dana uses everything to his own advantage.

All these fighters wanting to drag Dana into the cage to see how he stacks up, just adds to his mystique and must make him feel like he really is a tough guy. What an opportunity it gives him to have a f-word fest in the news columns. Young people really eat up all that foul language. One need not be a genius to see Dana's influence breaking out all over our society; it has even invaded the sophisticated world of professional tennis and Saturday Night Live!

Dana certainly is riding his new Kimbo pony all the way to the bank, without even brandishing a whip or sharp tongue. . . so far. The recent "fight" between Kimbo and Roy Nelson was so anticlimactic it was pitiful, though Roy's "where is my whopper" and King comments surely elated the sponsors. Dana the master of hype sold this clunker and got high ratings in doing so.

With Dana that old "fool me once. . ." adage just won't work 'cause he does it time after time, even fooling me twice, thrice, etc. though it does make me foolish and very angry in each instance.

As long as Dana is the idol of the MMA world he can continue to get away with any deception.

The hard part for me to swallow is when he sacrifices his "friends" to boost his income.

Recently, after retiring Chuck Liddell publicly (after the loss to Shogun Rua), he now is saying that a fight between Liddell and Kimbo is a future possibility. His old toy Chuck is being used to rack up UFC exposure on Dancing With The Stars, while his new toy Kimbo is being used to publicize TUF 10, future possible UFC events and to give the Elite XC owners a massive case of heartburn every time they see a headline in the news or in all of the MMA magazines out there regarding "the UFC's Kimbo Slice."

Dana is a sly fox, now isn't he?
