Smith Active vs. Buccaneers

Sunday, Oct. 23

The 49ers announced Smith was available to play in Week 7 against Tampa Bay.

Latest on Smith's Practice Status

Friday, Oct. 21

Smith was listed as questionable for Sunday's game on the 49ers' official injury report after being limited for the past two days of practice.

Smith Off to Slow Start in '16

Smith has followed a disappointing 2015 campaign with an underwhelming start to 2016. Through six games, he caught just 12 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns as San Francisco's fourth-leading pass-catcher.

Last season was Smith's first in San Francisco after four years with the Baltimore Ravens, and it was his least productive season to date, as he set or tied career lows with 33 receptions for 663 yards and four touchdowns.

Despite his struggles, the 49ers did little to address the wideout position during the offseason, which left him at the top of the depth chart.

Smith can be a dominant force down the field when he is healthy and locked in, as he boasts a career yards-per-catch average of 17.2, but he has been far too inconsistent since leaving the Ravens.

The former second-round pick out of Maryland was expected to be one of the most reliable targets in San Francisco's offense. But his first 22 games with the 49ers have proved otherwise.

It can be argued that the 49ers have one of the least talent-laden offenses in the NFL even with Smith on the field.
