Manchester United Transfer News: Ozan Tufan, Antoine Griezmann, Latest Rumours

Christopher SimpsonJun 28, 2016

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Turkey midfielder Ozan Tufan, who has drawn comparisons with Manchester City star Yaya Toure.

According to Turkish newspaper Hurriyet (h/t Jamie Anderson of the Daily Star), the 21-year-old caught United's attention with some excellent displays for his country at UEFA Euro 2016 along with Sunderland, Everton and Southampton, though the Red Devils' interest dates back to last year.

His manager at Fenerbahce, Vitor Pereira, has lauded him with considerable praise, per Anderson: "He still has a lot to learn and that is my job, but the world will soon have a central midfielder on the level of [Toure] on their hands."

Tufan was one of the few highlights of Turkey's poor campaign at the European Championship and particularly impressed in their final group game against the Czech Republic, per WhoScored.com:

The versatile youngster can operate centrally and is equally comfortable in an advanced role or as a holding midfielder and has also spent time playing on the right flank.

United could use more energy and dynamism in the middle—too often they relied on Marouane Fellaini and Michael Carrick last season, and Bastian Schweinsteiger isn't especially mobile either—so it's of no surprise he's on their radar.

So too is Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann, who has been shining for France this summer.

According to Kike Marin of Spanish outlet El Confidencial (h/t the Mirror's James Whaling), his new deal at the Vicente Calderon Stadium could have simply been agreed in order for him to command an even larger transfer fee—perhaps upwards of £83 million—and United and Paris Saint-Germain are at the front of the queue.

As well as netting three goals thus far at Euro 2016, he also enjoyed an outstanding season with Atletico, for whom he has regularly been putting the goals away, per WhoScored.com:

After his brace against the Republic of Ireland in the round of 16, BBC Sport's John Bennett and football writer Liam Canning hailed his technical ability and mental strength:

United sorely need more firepower this summer, but after his new deal it does seem unlikely Griezmann will be on the move—at the very least it will take a ludicrous sum of money and the Red Devils have other areas they also need to address.

Meanwhile, they may have missed out on Colombia starlet Marlos Moreno, as Manchester City have "agreed a fee of around £8 million for the winger," according to the MailOnline's Jack Gaughan

United are thought to be interested in him, but after holding "positive discussions" with his club, Atletico Nacional, City seem to have beaten them to the 19-year-old.

ESPN's Juan G. Arango is a fan of the youngster:

Here are some of his recent highlights with Atletico:

The Red Devils could also use some natural width—Anthony Martial was often forced to play on the left to compensate for the lack of wingers at the club, and while he can play there, he's more effective in the centre.

If they're to land Moreno they'll need to act quickly before City can finalise a deal for him—otherwise, they'll need to look elsewhere.
