Cubs 3B Javier Baez Sacrifices His Body, Leaps into Stands for an Out

Kyle NewportJun 25, 2016

It doesn't matter where Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon puts Javier Baez—the versatile infielder will do whatever he can to help his team.

Baez has played a number of positions this year, with the majority of his games coming at third base. Judging by a play he made Friday night against the Miami Marlins, it appears that is a position he is more than comfortable with.

Leading off the bottom of the fourth inning, Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto popped up down the left field line. Since there is a decent amount of foul territory at Marlins Park, there was room for Baez to make a play...barely.

He sacrificed his body for the team and jumped into the stands. Was it worth it? Well, Baez caught the ball—so it was totally worth it.

He stayed in the game and finished 1-for-4 with an RBI in a 5-4 Cubs victory.
