Dean Ambrose outlasted Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Chris Jericho, Cesaro and Alberto Del Rio in the Money in the Bank ladder match Sunday night, guaranteeing The Lunatic Fringe a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at any time of his choosing.

WWE shared video footage of Ambrose and his new briefcase:

With six men in the ring, there was no shortage of action. WWE shared some of the highlights:

Bleacher Report's Steven Rondina provided his take on the match:

WWE star Renee Young took to Twitter to congratulate Ambrose for the big win:

It didn't take The Lunatic Fringe long to cash in his briefcase, as Ambrose would later interpret Seth Rollins' celebration of pinning Roman Reigns to get his shot at the world heavyweight title.

After a just a few seconds, Ambrose defeated a fatigued Rollins and the title was his, via WWE:

Money in the Bank has become a staple in WWE, and securing the contract nearly ensures that a new champion will be crowned, as now 15 of the 17 winners have successfully cashed in.

Among the six-man field, only Jericho and Del Rio entered the match having won a world title before, while Ambrose, Owens, Zayn and Cesaro were all looking for an opportunity to taste the company's top prize for the first time.

In addition to the high stakes involved, there was a great deal of excitement surrounding the match prior to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, since the six Superstars involved are some of the best in-ring workers in the world.

Three of them—Owens, Zayn and Cesaro—were part of a match-of-the-year contender along with The Miz at Extreme Rules, so there were heavy expectations on their shoulders to put on another classic.

Their attention was more so on capturing the briefcase, and Owens was confident in his ability to do precisely that, per WWE Universe:

Zayn is Owens' greatest rival, and while they will seemingly always be at odds, the Underdog from the Underground made it clear that he wasn't worried about his former friend:

Ambrose is always ready and willing to fight regardless of the opponent or the circumstances, and fresh off beating Jericho in an Asylum match at Extreme Rules, he liked his chances amid the chaos of Money in the Bank:

While a case could be made for all six Superstars, Ambrose and Owens seemingly entered as co-favorites because of the manner in which they have been positioned over the past year.

That perception became reality when Ambrose snagged the briefcase and took it one step further by winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the first time.

Ambrose has all the tools to be a successful world champ, and most have long assumed that he was destined to reach the top.

The unstable Superstar has paid his dues and come close on a number of occasions, but now the prospect of Ambrose becoming the face of WWE has become a reality.
