The San Jose Sharks are alive and breathing in the Stanley Cup Final.

They fought, scratched and clawed to take Game 3 from the Pittsburgh Penguins at the SAP Center Saturday night, and their efforts were successful when Joonas Donskoi scored 12:18 into the first overtime.

Donskoi came sweeping around the Pittsburgh net with speed, and as he circled to the front of the net, he spun and shot in the same motion. The high wrister whistled past Penguins goalie Matt Murray and gave San Jose the 3-2 victory.

Pittsburgh still leads the series 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled for Monday night in San Jose. NBC will televise the game nationally at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, and you can stream it on NHL.TV.

While the Sharks were able to breathe a huge sigh of relief after getting their first win in the series, San Jose head coach Peter DeBoer still has a lot to be concerned about. The Penguins carried the play once again and outshot their hosts 42-26 throughout the game.

The Penguins had several good opportunities throughout the overtime and could have ended things if Sharks goalie Martin Jones had not played so effectively.

That's been a theme throughout the series. Jones has been on top of his game, and if he hadn't played so well, the two close losses the Sharks suffered in Pittsburgh could have been one-sided.

Murray did not have his best game in San Jose. While he was screened on Justin Braun's first-period goal, he appeared to give up a stoppable tying goal in the third period when Joel Ward fired an unscreened slap shot that eluded him.

Murray also went down quickly on Donskoi's game-winner, but that was an excellent shot that found the top corner of the net.

On the other side of the ice, Jones has stopped 113 of the 120 shots he has faced in the first three games of the series.

"Not hard to be focused this time of year, but yeah, they're a tough team to play," Jones said after the victory, per Eric Gilmore of NHL.com. "They come with a lot of speed, they get a lot of pucks to the net. We've done a good job in front of the net, I thought. Tonight was no different."

Pittsburgh has used its speed and quickness to gain the territorial advantage in each game of the series. While the Sharks were more aggressive on their home ice in Game 3 and registered a huge 47-17 advantage in hits, they had a tough time matching up with the Penguins.

That means if the Sharks are going to tie the series in Game 4, Jones almost certainly has to have another excellent game.

He gave up goals to Ben Lovejoy and Patric Hornqvist but shut the door on every other Pittsburgh thrust in Game 3. He is playing well at the most important time of the year.

The Sharks managed to win even though their Big Three of Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns and Logan Couture didn't make the scoreboard. Donskoi had an assist in addition to his game-winning goal, while Joe Thornton had two assists.

The Sharks are slight favorites going into Game 4, according to OddsShark. They are minus-135, while the Penguins are plus-122 in San Jose's second home game of the series.

Prediction

The Sharks still have not played their best hockey in the Stanley Cup Final. While much of the credit must go to the Penguins, the Sharks have not passed the puck as well as they did in their three previous series and have not been as decisive in the offensive zone.

They had a bit of good fortune in coming up with the Game 3 win; they could easily be down 3-0 in the series.

However, Jones has been playing well, and Game 3 was his best game of the series. There is no reason to believe he will lose his grip in Game 4. Expect him to play another tight game in goal.

With the momentum gained from the overtime win, the Sharks should come out of the gate flying.

Expect much of the pressure to dissipate when the Sharks get off to an excellent start in Game 4. They will jump out to a 2-0 first-period lead in Game 4 and cruise to a 4-2 victory to square the series.
