Novak Djokovic def. Dominic Thiem

Novak Djokovic666

For the fourth time in five years, Novak Djokovic will be competing for a French Open title after he made easy work of Dominic Thiem in straight sets on Friday.

NBC Sports showed his final point:

Hopefully for Djokovic, his final appearance in 2016 won't end up like the prior three that ended in losses. Two of them came against Rafael Nadal, and one came last year to Stan Wawrinka.

The Serb dominated all aspects of his match against Thiem, winning 36 of 50 possible first-serve points while limiting his opponent to just 27.

Thiem wasn't helping himself out either, though, as he committed 34 unforced errors compared to just 15 from Djokovic.

The underdog was only able to muster three game victories in the first two sets, but he jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the third set. Then Djokovic won a 30-shot marathon rally that swayed momentum his way, via Roland Garros on Twitter:

Djokovic fed from that rally and went on to win five of the next six games to close out the match.

This tournament has been the one peak that the Serb hasn't been able to reach yet as he's won each of the other three Grand Slams. A win on Sunday, though, would complete his career Grand Slam and make him the eighth player in men's singles history to achieve such a feat.

Andy Murray def. Stan Wawrinka

Last year's champion is out after Andy Murray disposed of Wawrinka in four sets on Friday. It will be the first time ever that Murray will play in a final at Roland Garros and the first time a British player will be participating in the French Open final in 79 years, according to the NBC Sports telecast.

It was unforced errors that did Wawrinka in on Friday, as he committed 43 mistakes during the match against Murray.

As the aggressor, Wawrinka wasn't afraid to head to the net, winning 25 points from close range and collecting 41 winners.

But Murray's ability to earn 41 points while receiving is what was able to put him over the top. And when Murray caught Wawrinka away from the net, he wasn't afraid to drop in some beautiful shots, like this one shown by Roland Garros on Twitter:

Now Murray will face Djokovic in the final, a player he hasn't fared too well against. In their careers, Djokovic holds a 23-10 edge, but Murray did win the last meeting between the two in the final of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome, which was also on clay.

Serena Williams def. Kiki Bertens

Serena Williams7 (9)6
Kiki Bertens6 (7)4

Don't let the straight sets fool you, world No. 1 Serena Williams had to work hard to get past No. 58 Kiki Bertens on Friday.

NBC Sports showed her match-clinching point:

The main thing that any Williams challenger must address is their ability to keep up with her powerful serve. And for most of the match, Bertens was able to do so despite allowing five aces to Williams.

The underdog won 37 of 86 receiving points and managed to keep the ball in play, thus leading Williams to commit 31 unforced errors compared to Bertens' 19.

It caused the first set to head into a tiebreak, where Williams just overwhelmed Bertens with her ability to control the pace of play when it mattered the most.

The second set was much of the same throughout the first six games as it was tied at three apiece. But as the match wore on, Williams wore Bertens down and won three of the final four games to win the match.

Getting to the final is a good omen for Williams, as she has won each of her previous three appearances in the championship match at Roland Garros.

Garbine Muguruza def. Samantha Stosur

In the other semifinal, world No. 4 Garbine Muguruza had a much easier time in her match, taking down Australian Samantha Stosur in straight sets.

The emotion of reaching her first-ever French Open final was clear from the moment she won it, via Roland Garros:

Given her ability to control the match, it wasn't a question of if Muguruza would make the final, but in how many sets.

Muguruza won a very high 22 of 28 first-serve opportunities and 31 of 58 receiving chances. With those types of numbers, Stosur wasn't left with many ways to pick up points against the 22-year-old.

This is the second time that Muguruza has reached a Grand Slam final. Unfortunately for her, this will also be the second time she'll be facing Williams in a major tournament's climactic match.

The two squared off at Wimbledon in 2015 where Williams won in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. And while Williams holds a 3-1 career advantage over Muguruza, the Spaniard's lone win came at Roland Garros during the second round of the 2014 tournament.
