WWE Money in the Bank 2016: Feuds Guaranteed to Increase Excitement for Event

Tom ClarkJun 4, 2016

WWE's Money in the Bank is one of those events that typically stands out from the rest, mostly because of the Money in the Bank ladder match. The man who grabs the briefcase may as well be grabbing championship gold; winning is a major step to becoming the WWE world heavyweight champion.

This year is no different, and six contenders have already qualified for the match. Fans have their favorites to win, and the bout promises to be a good one. But it's not the only highlight of the card.

John Cena and Seth Rollins are both back from injury, and that alone is enough to immediately increase fan interest.

The table is being set for Money in the Bank as the days go by. WWE needs an event that will deliver on the New Era hype—the hype that is fueling the overall narrative of the company right now. It's important for WWE that this is more than just a gimmick angle.

The New Era should mean more, because it's also the backdrop for the imminent brand split that's coming in July

But the best way to ensure Money in the Bank succeeds is to book feuds that bring the excitement from start to finish. These are the feuds that will have fans talking, and WWE needs that kind of buzz to increase the attention that will be given to Money in the Bank.

Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins

This is one feud that was destined to happen.

From the moment he betrayed his brothers in The Shield, WWE put Seth Rollins on a path of endless rivalries with them. Dean Ambrose has had his chance at revenge, and that chance will likely come again at some point. But now it's Reigns' turn.

Revenge, however, is giving way to redemption.

Rollins is ready to take back his championship from the man he left for dead. But it won't be that easy to resume his role as the industry's top champion. The Big Dog will not give up that easily. They are two sides of the same coin, and as different as they are, they are actually quite similar.

It very well could have been Reigns who had aligned himself with The Authority. He could have left The Shield in ruins and decided to climb the main event ladder to sit next to Triple H on the throne. Rollins could have been the guy fighting against all odds to reach his goal, which would have have put both men at odds.

Though it's gone the other way, there's no changing the fact that their destinies seem to be intertwined.

Roman and Seth began as the future of WWE, and their time is now. It's only logical that they feud over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and, more importantly, over the top spot in the company. This is the rivalry fans have wanted to see for a long time, and now it's finally happening.

Reigns may be hated, but he is slowly winning the crowd over one match at a time. Rollins may be loved, but he's done nothing except heel out since he came back. Their roles are a bit twisted, and the crowd reactions will continue to be as well, but that will not change the excitement being generated here.

Reigns vs. Rollins is meant to happen, and that will be evident when they hit the ring on June 19.

The New Era, Money in the Bank

This is the match of the workhorses in WWE.

Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Dean Ambrose and Cesaro have done the bulk of the heavy lifting in recent months. The Miz's Intercontinental Championship has been the prize they've fought for, and they've left the fans wanting more every time out.

The midcard has not been this impressive in a long time.

But there's much more at stake on June 19. The four New Era Superstars will be joined by Alberto Del Rio and Chris Jericho, who want much more than the Intercontinental Championship; they want the top title in the company.

This match is a great way to get there.

This is the match that WWE has made famous. The bout itself is at its best when the top talents are utilized, and that is definitely the case here. Fans expect excellent wrestling, daring moves and thrilling high spots. These six men will deliver all of that and more.

The best part about this is that four of the six have never been world champion in WWE. So if the last spots are taken by two more New Era Superstars, then there's a good chance a very exciting ending awaits fans on June 19.

Combine that with the fact that this match will steal the show, and it becomes a must-see match.

John Cena vs. AJ Styles

AJ Styles is the newest villain in WWE, and he has his sights set on John Cena. As fans attempt to recover from his surprise heel turn, the fact is there's really no other direction WWE could have taken here.

The face-against-face rivalry already happened when AJ feuded with Roman Reigns. Fans were split at times, but for the most part, Reigns was the one who drew the heat. AJ is such a protagonist, and he had the potential to be the top one in WWE.

But since Cena is his next opponent, Styles had no choice but to change his colors.

However, this match is more about the spectacle itself. It's a dream match, one that many likely believed they would never see. Styles vs. Cena brings together the age-old debate of pro wrestling versus sports entertainment, and that fact is not lost on longtime fans.

Of course, the most alluring aspect of his feud is that it's new. Fans have obviously never seen this before, and these guys are just getting started here. There is a lot of ground to cover before Money in the Bank, and WWE will highlight this rivalry with the same amount of attention as Reigns-Rollins.

There may not be a championship involved with Cena vs. Styles, but that's not necessary. There is enough reason to watch without a gold strap hanging in the balance.

Styles is perhaps the top worker in the business, and Cena is the top guy in WWE. These two will bring everything they have on June 19, and there will likely be no more exciting feud booked for Money in the Bank.
