John Cena vs. AJ Styles' Best Booking Options for WWE Money in the Bank 2016

Donald WoodJun 6, 2016

When AJ Styles and his brothers in The Club attacked John Cena during his return to WWE Raw from a shoulder injury, it became abundantly clear the two Superstars would end up in a singles match at the 2016 edition of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

While Cena has been the face of WWE for a decade, it was Styles who was the face of TNA during the same time period. With careers that have run parallel to each other, it's a dream match for many when these two men finally square off.

Here are the best booking options for the battle between Cena and Styles at WWE's 2016 Money in the Bank event.

Styles Steals a Victory with The Club

Cena is a 15-time world champion who doesn't need any more credibility, but Styles, on the other hand, needs victories desperately in WWE. Beating Cena at Money in the Bank would be a great way to build momentum for Styles.

Unfortunately, Cena losing clean is unlikely, and Styles will be forced to use interference from Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson to get the much-needed victory. While winning in dirty fashion will lessen the long-term impact of the win, beating Cena is still a big deal.

Many fans want to see Styles win via a clean pinfall or submission—the latter is laughable since Cena hasn't tapped out since 2004—but using The Club to help Styles walk away victorious would also lend credibility to the heel stable moving forward.

Styles must win the first matchup in the feud to give him the momentum needed to continue a marquee storyline with Cena, but the WWE Universe should be terrified about what will come next in the program in regard to Cena and his long history of burials.

Styles Simply Wins Clean

The best possible booking of the likely Cena vs. Styles matchup would be having Styles win the bout clean, but few men over the last decade have earned clean victories over the 15-time world champion.

Since joining WWE, Styles has only won once on PPV and is in desperate need of marquee victories. While he wasn't able to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship from Roman Reigns, Styles beating a star of Cena's magnitude could put him back on the right track.

It wouldn't hurt Cena to take a loss, and it would be one of the biggest wins in Styles' career, so a clean finish would be perfect booking. Unfortunately, WWE Creative almost never books Cena to take clean losses, and Styles likely won't be able to earn the definitive victory.

As much as Cena should put over Styles by letting him pin him in the middle of the ring without outside interference, it's hard to believe it will happen with Cena's history of not taking clean losses.
