Jhonny Peralta Injury: Updates on Cardinals Star's Thumb and Return

Joseph ZuckerJul 19, 2016

St. Louis Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta was placed on the disabled list on July 19 with a thumb injury. However, he's ready to return after being activated from the DL, per Jennifer Langosch of MLB.com.

Peralta had surgery on his left thumb to repair a torn ligament in March that kept him out until June 7. He's struggled in the 30 games since his return, hitting just .221/.258/.416.

Getting Peralta back couldn't come at a better time, as his replacement, Aledmys Diaz, landed on the DL with a hairline fracture in his thumb.

Peralta could be rusty after missing so much time this season, but the Cardinals will welcome his bat back into the fold.
