Dolphins Reportedly Won't Bring in Moreno

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported while Moreno would like to play for the Dolphins, Miami is not interested.

Moreno 'Staying in Great Shape Just in Case'

Sunday, May 15

Despite Klis’ update that Moreno is 80 percent mentally checked out of the NFL, he did note the former Georgia playmaker is still in shape. He hasn’t played a game since Oct. 12 of the 2014 season, but Klis did say “his knees needed a full year off last year to regenerate.”

Injuries Have Taken a Toll on Moreno's Body

Klis pointed out Moreno’s knees were “virtually bone on bone” in 2013, when he ran for 1,038 yards and tallied 548 receiving yards and a combined 13 touchdowns for the Broncos. Klis also noted the tenuous nature of those knees is why Denver did not bring him back after such a solid season and the Miami Dolphins only gave him a one-year deal as a free agent.

Moreno dislocated his elbow and then tore his ACL during his one season in Miami (2014) and never had the opportunity to follow up his impressive 2013 campaign.

If Moreno did decide to attempt a comeback, the injuries are certainly a concern. Still, the former 12th overall pick out of Georgia in 2009 flashed moments of brilliance throughout his career and was a critical component of Denver’s 2013 team that reached the Super Bowl, where it eventually lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

Moreno will also be 29 years old when the 2016 campaign starts, and Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk simplified the outlook when he said “bad knees are a bad problem for an NFL running back.”

The door to a comeback appears slightly ajar given Klis’ update, but injuries, age and the fact Moreno is “80 percent done” from a mental standpoint means fans have probably seen the last of the Georgia product in the NFL.
