Jon Bostic to Lions: Latest Trade Details, Comments and Reaction
The New England Patriots have traded linebacker Jon Bostic to the Detroit Lions for an undisclosed draft pick, the Lions announced Monday.
ESPN's Adam Caplan revealed the pick was a conditional seventh-round selection.
Bostic played 11 games and started one for New England last year, recording only one tackle. The third-year pro out of Florida spent the first two years of his career with the Chicago Bears.

This is the second time since September that Bostic has been traded. He recorded 140 tackles in two years in Chicago before the Bears traded the linebacker to New England for a sixth-round pick in September.
Due to the Patriots' depth at linebacker, Bostic did not see much time on the field. He was Chicago's leading tackler in 2014 with 83 tackles under former head coach Marc Trestman, who ran a 4-3 defense during his time with the Bears.
In a 3-4 scheme under current head coach John Fox, he fell out of Chicago's rotation. The Patriots also run a 3-4 defense but have multiple packages to accommodate their depth up front. That didn't work for Bostic, either.
Detroit, however, runs a base 4-3 defense. Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin mixes some three-man fronts with three linebackers and five defensive backs at times. As long as Bostic doesn't need to play an edge-rushing linebacker, head coach Jim Caldwell should have a role ready for him in Week 1.
That's if he can beat out Tahir Whitehead for one of the outside linebacker spots or become the Lions' new middle linebacker.
