Brandon Marshall Comments on Raiders Potentially Moving to Las Vegas

Tim DanielsApr 30, 2016

New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall doesn't believe moving the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas would be a wise decision for the NFL because of the impact it could have on young players.

TMZ Sports passed along Marshall's response when he was asked about the NFL's potential arrival in Sin City. He's worried about what would happen when players coming out of college start cashing their NFL paychecks in a city with so many ways to spend it:

The idea of the Raiders moving to Las Vegas has started to pick up a lot of steam during draft week as owner Mark Davis discussed it with the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee. Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com noted Davis stated it wasn't simply a leverage ploy, either.

"We're not using Las Vegas as a bargaining chip," Davis said. "This is real."

The report also noted that the Raiders owner pledged $500 million toward a new stadium, which is projected to cost around $1.4 billion, if the sides reach an agreement to move the franchise.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wouldn't fully commit to supporting the move—pointing toward the league's stance on gambling—during an appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Wednesday, per Andre Vergara of Fox Sports:

"

We don't have a proposal. Ultimately that is a decision of the ownership. There are owners who will feel very strongly about continuing to support our position on gambling, there will be owners that will have the view of whether that's the best market for us to be in, whether there's truly the fan support there, they'll look at obviously the stadium alternatives, and I think that's what you do in any relocation.

"

Ultimately, Marshall's point addresses one of the biggest negatives when it comes to sending a professional sports team to Las Vegas. Handling newfound fame and wealth is always a major concern for incoming rookies, and that would be further magnified in Vegas.

A debate could be on the horizon if the Raiders reach a deal with the city and send a formal relocation proposal to the NFL. But Davis' comments make it sound like he's pushing full steam ahead to make the idea a reality in the foreseeable future.
