Victor Ortiz vs. Andre Berto: Live Round-by-Round Results and Highlights

Kevin McRaeApr 30, 2016

Andre Berto got off the deck to stop Victor Ortiz in the fourth round and avenge a 2011 defeat in their welterweight rematch on Saturday night at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

Berto (31-4, 24 KO) went down from a straight left hand in the second round and seemed to be having a hard time getting comfortable in the fight, even after Ortiz (31-6-2, 24 KO) suffered a pretty bad cut on his hairline from a headbutt in the opening round.

Ortiz boxed effectively through the first three-plus rounds and seemed to be holding himself together before Berto landed a picture-perfect right uppercut that floored him and changed the fight on a dime.

Berto pressed his advantage when Ortiz rose from the mat, dropping him a second time near the ropes just seconds later.

It seemed that Ortiz beat the 10 count by a fraction of a second, but he didn’t respond to referee Jack Reiss’ questions about whether he wanted to continue and the fight was stopped.

In the co-feature, Thomas Williams Jr. knocked out Edwin Rodriguez with a dynamite left hand in the closing seconds of the second round to likely earn a title shot against WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.

Williams (20-1, 14 KO) and Rodriguez (28-2, 19 KO) engaged in what really ended up being more of a street fight than a boxing match over the two rounds it lasted. Both men were slinging huge hooks from their shoelaces without regard to defense or incoming return fire.

Williams was rocked a couple of times in the second round before coming back and blasting Rodriguez to the mat with a left hand for a brutal knockout.
