Myles Jack Selected by Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 NFL Draft

Alec NathanApr 28, 2016

Myles Jack has long been heralded as one of the 2016 NFL draft's premier players, but he had to wait longer than expected before the Jacksonville Jaguars made him a second-round pick at No. 36 overall.

The No. 2-ranked player on the big board of Bleacher Report's Matt Miller, Jack is a freakish athlete who posted a 40-inch vertical jump and 10'4" broad jump at his pro day, according to NFL.com.

Pro Football Focus also noted that "Jack attacked blockers with power early in 2015, showing that he can develop into one of the league’s best all-around defensive weapons."

So despite the fact that Jack will need to undergo surgery "if or when the bone and cartilage fully separate" in his surgically repaired right knee, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars needed help on defense and he can play multiple positions.

USA Today's Lindsay Jones noted how much better the Jaguars defense looks now than where it started when the offseason began:

Per the NFL Network's official Twitter account, NFL Network's Mike Mayock has high hopes for the Jaguars after selecting Jack:

ESPN's Adam Schefter noted what discussions were like for the Jaguars with their first pick on Thursday and how things wound up working out on Friday:

While it wouldn't be hard to knock Jack for being discouraged after every team with a first-round pick bypassed him, his agent, John Thornton, explained that Jack will channel Thursday's disappointment into motivation when the 2016 season gets underway:

It would be hard to fault front offices for taking a risk-averse approach to Jack and his balky knee during the first round, when the pressure is on teams to land future franchise centerpieces.

However, with Jack looking like one of the biggest bargains remaining early in the second round, the Jaguars were happy to pounce on a game-changing talent.
