Will Fuller to Texans: Trade Details, Twitter Reaction in 2016 NFL Draft
The Houston Texans traded up one spot in the 2016 NFL draft with the Washington Redskins to select Notre Dame wide receiver Will Fuller with the 21st overall pick.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Texans gave up a 2017 sixth-round pick to move up to No. 21.
Twitter reacted to Houston's acquisition, as Fuller became only the second receiver off the board.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora felt like the Texans made a savvy decision to get ahead of other teams in need at Fuller's position:
Matt Bowen of ESPN referred to Fuller's blazing speed as a big reason he was a first-round selection:
Rivals.com's Mike Farrell noted how much star Houston receiver DeAndre Hopkins stood to benefit from Fuller's arrival:
Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer was among the few who were skeptical of how Fuller would transition to the NFL:
Here's the best of the rest:
Fuller ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, confirming just how fast he was and how much potential he has to be a devastating deep threat in the pros.
The 22-year-old also had the college production to back up his impressive 40 time, especially in 2015, when Fuller hauled in 62 receptions for 1,258 yards—20.3 yards per catch—and 14 touchdowns.
With someone as elite as Hopkins opposite him and a big-armed quarterback in Brock Osweiler to throw him the ball, Fuller has to be thrilled with his landing spot in Houston.
The Texans won the AFC South last year without a solid answer at QB all season and no legitimate No. 2 wideout to complement Hopkins. Their moves this offseason have addressed the issues on the offensive side of the ball, and Fuller is the icing on the figurative cake.
