IPL Results 2016: Latest Scores, Fixtures, Table After Daredevils vs. Lions
The Gujarat Lions moved clear at the top of the Indian Premier League table on Wednesday after beating the Delhi Daredevils by a single run in a dramatic match.
Half-centuries for Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum helped the Lions rack up a score of 172 before an excellent showing from Dhawal Kulkarni—he took three wickets at the cost of just 19 runs—got them off to an excellent start, though Jean-Paul Duminy (48) and Chris Morris' 82 from 32 balls gave them a real scare as the Daredevils almost completed an unlikely chase.

Delhi Daredevils vs. Gujarat Lions
Gujarat Lions: 172/6 (McCullum 60, Kulkarni three for 19) beat Delhi Daredevils 171/5 (Morris 82, Imran Tahir three for 24) by one run.
Delhi won the toss and elected to field first, a move that looked to be a mistake after the first 10 overs passed without a single wicket.
Smith and McCullum were the batsmen doing the damage, as the former raced to 53 and the latter to 60; they made full use of the powerplay, grabbing eight and nine boundaries, respectively.
Tahir made a vital intervention in the 11th over, which saw Smith dismissed for a leg before wicket, and Morris bowled McCullum four balls later with a full toss to the middle stump. Suresh Raina fell in the same over, and it was only Dinesh Karthik's 19 and James Faulkner's late unbeaten 22 that helped the Lions reach the score they did.
Cricket commentator Ayaz Memon felt they might have done enough despite Tahir leading the Daredevils in an excellent rally:
Sky Sports Cricket provided the key stats and highlighted the contrast between the first 10 overs and the last 10:
A terrible start at the crease for the Daredevils put their chances of completing a chase in serious jeopardy, as they lost Sanju Samson, Quinton de Kock and Karun Nair inside the first four overs, with the trio amassing just 15 runs between them—all dismissed by Kulkarni.
Duminy and Rishabh Pant (20) got the chase back on track, but it was Morris' entrance that truly transformed their outlook, as he hit five sixes from his first 12 balls. Memon noted the significance of his impact:
Soon enough, Morris had reached his half-century and in some style, per ESPNcricinfo:
Praveen Kumar did his best to spoil Delhi's party, as he limited them to just four runs in the penultimate over, leaving them requiring 14 from the final six balls.
Faulkner missed a gilt-edged chance to catch Morris in the first ball of the 20th over, and to make matters worse, it spilled through his hands for a four. But despite the South African's continued efforts, the hosts fell just short of completing their chase.
The Lions maintained their impressive form and should have little trouble against the struggling Rising Pune Supergiants in their next match.
As for the Daredevils, they should take great heart for running them so close, but against the Kolkata Knight Riders, they'll be up against it once more.
