Noah Spence Reportedly Sent All NFL Teams His Past 20 Drug Tests

Timothy RappApr 27, 2016

Eastern Kentucky linebacker Noah Spence, a potential first-round selection in this year's NFL draft, sent his past 20 drug tests to all 32 NFL franchises in an attempt "to prove to NFL teams that he has turned around his life since his troubles at Ohio State," according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.

Schefter reported: "Spence had Eastern Kentucky conduct five drug tests from May through December, then an independent drug-testing company conduct 15 more each week from January until this week. All of the results were sent via FedEx to all NFL teams this week to review before Thursday night's draft."

The Big Ten deemed Spence permanently ineligible in 2014 after he failed multiple drug tests while at Ohio State. He transferred to Eastern Kentucky in 2015.

He was a force during his Ohio State career and blossomed during the 2013 season, registering 50 tackles (14 for loss) and 7.5 sacks. Spence looked primed to be a top prospect before his drug issues arose. Given that teams are likely concerned about any off-field concerns stemming from his Ohio State days, it appears Spence rather proactively attempted to alleviate some of those concerns by sending teams his drug results.

It remains to be seen if organizations will be convinced enough that he's turned over a new leaf to make him a first-round selection. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN.com didn't project Spence as a first-round pick, though Bleacher Report's Matt Miller rated him as the 13th-best prospect in this draft.

It's hard to imagine Spence will slip out of the second round if he does indeed fall out of Thursday's opening round. He's an excellent edge-rusher who should be able to make an instant impact and improve a team's pass rush from Day 1.
