WWE Payback 2016: Updated Match Card, Bold Predictions for PPV

Aaron BowerApr 26, 2016

With new feuds and exciting, fresh talent making their pay-per-view debuts this weekend, WWE Payback 2016 is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing shows the company has put on in a while.

There is the possibility for drama and surprises throughout the card, with the main event featuring AJ Styles and Roman Reigns being a particular area of intrigue.

But just how much drama will we see this weekend? Here's a look at the state of the card following the go-home edition of Raw and some bold predictions that could come to fruition.

Match Card

  • Kalisto vs. Ryback (United States Championship, pre-show)
  • Charlotte vs. Natalya (Women's Championship)
  • Dolph Ziggler vs. Baron Corbin
  • Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady vs. The Vaudevillains
  • Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
  • Dean Ambrose vs. Chris Jericho
  • The Miz vs. Cesaro (Intercontinental Championship)
  • Roman Reigns vs. AJ Styles (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Bold Predictions

After months of controversial victories, this should be the night when Charlotte loses her grip on the women's division in WWE.

With Bret Hart evening up the stakes in Natalya's corner, the Canadian will upset the odds and beat Charlotte to be crowned the new women's champion. It's bold given how the likes of Sasha Banks seemed set to become the new champion a little over a few weeks ago, but pinning the belt on Natalya would give it fresh impetus.

Another controversial pin for Charlotte would make little sense right now. Either have her win clean or have Natalya end Charlotte's lengthy reign with the belt.

Elsewhere, the tag match between Enzo and Cass and The Vaudevillains will be one fans of NXT will not want to miss.

With both of these teams graduating from that brand on their routes to the main roster, it will no doubt be an entertaining bout inside the ring.

But it seems unlikely Enzo and Cass will get the win, and fans can expect them to be screwed along the way. Given the impact they made during their first night on the main roster and the way they talked about The Dudley Boyz, it's fair to suspect there's a little bit of that rivalry left to run.

So Bubba and D-Von will cost the babyfaces the match here and allow The Vaudevillains to advance and face The New Day.

Finally, there is almost certainly going to be a new Bullet Club taking shape when the final curtain comes down on Sunday night.

But with many suspecting AJ Styles as the new leader, Styles will remain babyface, and Finn Balor, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson will cost him the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Styles has persistently rejected the advances of Gallows and Anderson, although there was a moment on Raw this past week when he embraced them both backstage.

However, WWE probably did this to throw fans off the scent, as Gallows and Anderson's true intentions will be revealed at Payback when they arrive with Balor, cost Styles the title and set up Balor vs. Styles.
