Eli Manning Comments on Josh Norman Signing with Washington Redskins

The arrival of cornerback Josh Norman will make life difficult for quarterbacks in the NFC East, but New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning isn't sweating the Washington Redskins' newest signing.

Washington announced Friday it added the All-Pro defender, sending shock waves through the rest of the NFL. Manning, however, declined to feed the hype, per Jordan Raanan of NJ Advance Media:

I don't think we're going to make a big deal out of it. [Norman's] a good player but when you're game-planning against Washington, we have 10 other guys to worry about and we have to worry about doing our part.

It's not going to be about a battle between Odell [Beckham Jr.] and Josh. We're not going to be about making that a point. 

It's about winning a football game, doing our job and doing it well. We'll game plan for him like the other corners, but we have to make sure not to make it a bigger deal so it doesn't escalate into something that is not about football.

"

Historically, Manning has had a lot of success against Washington. His 16 wins in 23 matchups are his most against any one team, per Pro-Football-Reference.com, and the 35-year-old has thrown for 5,404 yards, 27 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in those 23 meetings.

Far more intriguing than Manning vs. Norman will be the chess match between Norman and Beckham after their head-to-head battle in last year's 38-35 win for the Panthers. Norman famously called the Giants wideout a "ballerina" after the game and said he should've been ejected for an unnecessary roughness penalty in the third quarter, per ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk and David Newton.

The Giants and Redskins face off in Weeks 3 and 17 in 2016, setting up two of the most heavily anticipated regular-season games of the year.
