Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours, Players Targeted by Red Devils

Rob BlanchetteApr 22, 2016

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has said Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea "has" to become a Galactico in the summer and depart Old Trafford for Los Blancos.

Sean Kearns of Metro reported the Spain international defender believes the world-class stopper should return to his home city after his expected transfer to Real collapsed last summer.

According to Kearns, the defender said: "If the people upstairs [at Real Madrid] think that De Gea is one of the best—and they only look to sign the best players—then he has to come here."

LEON, SPAIN - JUNE 11: Goalkeeper David de Gea (R) of Spain listen to the Spanish national anthem embraced to his teammate Sergio Ramos (R) during the international friendly match between Spain and Costa Rica at Reino de Leon Stadium on June 11, 2015 in L

De Gea's "dream move" to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium was thwarted by a paperwork issue at the 11th hour at the start of the campaign, per Kearns, leading the Spaniard to sign a new deal with the Red Devils, triggering yet another impressive season for United.

The 25-year-old has been selected in the PFA Team of the Year for 2015-16 after his heroics for the north-west giants, per BBC Sport, and he has looked at ease between the sticks despite missing out on a blockbuster move back to the Spanish capital.

Squawka recently highlighted the diverse skill set of the 'keeper, who has become famous for his array of shot-stopping:

United manager Louis van Gaal was recently unwilling to discuss a potential fresh exit claim when asked about De Gea by James Ducker of the Telegraph, with the Dutchman insinuating the goalkeeper wasn't going to leave the club last summer:

In other news, United are on standby to swoop for Barcelona superstar Neymar after Duncan Wright of the Sun reported the Camp Nou club are "considering" a sale because of their inability to tie the Brazilian down to a new deal.

Wright said the player is looking to increase his relatively modest £77,000-per-week wages, with United making it clear they can offer him £300,000 per week to move to the Premier League. Barca "fear" a huge wage deal for Neymar would leave them "crippled financially," opening the door for a switch to the Theatre of Dreams.

Wright added Paris Saint-Germain could turn their attention to Neymar after a long-term pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo "reached a dead end."

Here is a video displaying the forward's form this term:

The 2015-16 season has proved United are short of being a championship-winning side, and the addition of a superstar signing looks more likely after the team's failure domestically and in the UEFA Champions League.

However, a player of Neymar's magnitude would surely be unwilling to miss out on club football's premier competition to move to United despite the sums of money on the table, with Champions League football surely essential as part of any transfer.

United sit fifth in the the Premier League with only a slim chance of attaining fourth at the expense of Manchester City or Arsenal
