Michael Owen Named Liverpool's International Ambassador, Fans React Badly
Liverpool fans were left fuming on Thursday with the news from the club's official Twitter account that Michael Owen is to become its first official international ambassador.
Owen scored 147 goals in 274 appearances for the Reds before leaving for Real Madrid in 2004. He returned to England with Newcastle United in 2005 but broke his first club's cardinal rule when he joined archrivals Manchester United in 2009.
And that betrayal was brought to the fore again following the announcement that Owen would be rejoining Liverpool in an ambassadorial role:
