Neymar Vote Suggests Barcelona Fans Open to Brazilian's Transfer

Matt JonesApr 20, 2016

Despite a Ballon d’Or nomination, 21 league goals and 10 assists this season, 61 per cent of Barcelona supporters would be happy to sell Neymar this summer, according to a poll.

The sample was taken by Diario Sport on Wednesday (h/t Pete Jenson of the MailOnline), in which the publication asked: “Would you sell Neymar for his buy-out clause of £150 million?” A shade under 7,000 voted, and just shy of two-thirds said they would cash in.

It’s remarkable to consider given the aforementioned accolades and statistics. But the results are indicative of a fanbase that’s grown disillusioned lately with both the team and the footballer.

Neymar hasn’t scored in his last five matches and was captured during the 2-1 loss to Valencia allegedly using foul-mouthed language towards team-mate Jordi Alba.

“Go f--k yourself! What? What? You got a problem,” he said, according to Movistar+ (h/t Marca's Aaron Gratton) when he didn't receive the ball.

Spanish football expert Rafael Hernandez has commented on the player’s poor recent form and attitude, too:

According to Sport, Barcelona’s great rivals Real Madrid and a selection of Premier League clubs are interested in landing the player.

Neymar was the darling of the Camp Nou not too long ago, though, and if push came to shove, despite his recent drop in standards, the supporters would surely want to keep him on board.

If the 24-year-old finds a spark again between now and the end of the season, the results of another poll of the same ilk would look very different.
