Real Madrid will offer Karim Benzema a new contract in a bid to avoid losing their French striker, per L'Equipe (h/t Alejandro Alcazar of Sport).

Under compatriot Zinedine Zidane, the complete forward has returned to prominence within the Madrid first team to score consistently when fit.

Per WhoScored.com, the 28-year-old has scored 22 goals in 23 La Liga appearances in a season fragmented by a string of separate injury issues.

The former Lyon attacker has been plagued with trouble to his hamstring, hip, thigh and knee at varying points during the campaign. However, when given the chance to showcase his talents, Benzema has grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Off the field, the current campaign has been one to forget for Benzema after the French Football Federation confirmed on Friday they would not be selecting him for Euro 2016, per BBC Sport.

The dynamic forward has not played for Les Bleus since November due to an investigation into an alleged plot to blackmail his international team-mate Mathieu Valbuena.

Per Soccerway, 2015-16 has been the most prolific goalscoring campaign of his professional career in spite of his limited match action, and his club is now reportedly preparing to offer him an extended deal to keep him in the capital.

Per Alcazar, Los Blancos are ready to sit down with the player's agent, Karim Djaziri, this week to discuss new terms, despite the player still having two years yet to run on his current deal. The new contract would reportedly cost the club around €6.5 million a year.

Alongside extending Benzema's stay at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real also have their eye on another world-class goalscorer, per the Evening Standard's Tom Collomosse.

The Liga giants are reportedly keeping tabs on Tottenham icon Harry Kane following another sensational run of form in the Premier League for the England international striker.

Per the BBC, Kane is the joint leading scorer in the top flight this season with 22 goals. However, the 22-year-old will have the chance to claim a solo top spot when Spurs face Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Monday evening.

According to Collomosse, last season's PFA Young Player of the Year is happy to remain in north London. Kane is a welcome figure at White Hart Lane—not just reasoned by his emphatic scoring rate—but also because he is a youth-team graduate and a renowned fan of the club.

WhoScored.com highlighted the effectiveness of Kane this season:

Per Collomosse, the UEFA Champions League semi-finalists have been asked to be kept informed of any prospective sale plans Tottenham have regarding their star striker.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, however, is expected to want to keep his hotshot attacker at the club for the foreseeable future following the negative on-field repercussions of Gareth Bale's world-record fee exit to Spain in September 2013.
