Real Madrid Transfer News: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alvaro Morata, Top Rumours

Tom SunderlandApr 17, 2016

Real Madrid have been named as one of just two clubs who could land Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer following reports Manchester City will recruit Castilla graduate Alvaro Morata.

Rob Draper reported for the Mail on Sunday that Aubameyang is "expected to join either Manchester United or Real Madrid for £70 million," with the future of Santiago Bernabeu incumbent Karim Benzema in some doubt.

Aubameyang has said he wants to play for Real Madrid one day.

It was confirmed last week Benzema won't feature for France at UEFA Euro 2016, and French newspaper L'Equipe reported this was due to the player's role in the Mathieu Valbuena blackmail case (h/t Sky Sports).

Depending on the outcome of those charges, confirmed by BBC News last November, Aubameyang could be brought in as a prolific replacement, one who has received high praise from the BBC's John Bennett:

The Gabon international has another four years left to run on his Dortmund deal, but after netting 37 goals for the club this season, Aubameyang has established himself as one of Europe's hottest scoring forces.

The 26-year-old intensified talk of a move to the Spanish capital last month when he told beIN Sports he one day hoped to represent Los Merengues for a variety of reasons (h/t Mirror's Ed Malyon):

"

Real Madrid? There's no deal in place, but... I promised my grandad I'd play there one day.

I've said to myself, 'Why go back to France [to join PSG] when I left that league three years ago? Why not discover something new?' Like I've said before, I'd love to play in Spain and to finally enjoy a bit of good weather.

"

Malyon also noted the outcome of Real Madrid's transfer-ban appeal will affect their business this summer, and Aubameyang could have the talents necessary to fire them back to glory after falling slightly off the pace this season.

The Black and Yellows fell out of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals last Thursday at the hands of Liverpool, but BT Sport displayed footage of a supreme Aubameyang goal as he held up his high standards in front of goal:

Meanwhile, incoming Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will reportedly shun Paul Pogba this summer to make a move for his Juventus team-mate Morata, per the Daily Star's Paul Hetherington.

Real have a reported buyback option for their former striker worth £20 million, and Gianluca Di Marzio's translator David Amoyal recently said a return to the Bernabeu could beckon for the Spain forward:

According to Hetherington, Guardiola was impressed by Morata when his Bayern Munich team faced the Old Lady in this season's UEFA Champions League round of 16. Los Merengues could attempt to re-sign Morata and sell again for a quick profit, but Juve may fight to keep his talents.

With Real also in the hunt for Pogba, it's suggested City could back off in their hunt for the Frenchman in order to keep Los Blancos content and instead land Morata, who has 10 goals in 42 games this season.
