Vin Scully, Master Storyteller, Talks Madison Bumgarner and a Snake
Longtime Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully is a master storyteller. His soothing voice and expert delivery make him the Morgan Freeman of baseball.
In his final season in the booth, Scully has wasted no time in getting to his narrative gems. On Friday, with Madison Bumgarner on the mound for the visiting San Francisco Giants, Scully recounted a story, secondhand, from Bumgarner.
According to the tale, the pitcher and his wife came across a large snake, and he chopped it up with an ax. Inside the remains of the snake, they discovered a live jack rabbit and nursed it back to health.

The moral of this baseball fairy tale is perseverance. The jack rabbit survived incredible odds—namely being consumed by a snake.
According to Scully, Bumgarner said, "Just think about how tough that rabbit was."
