Barcelona Transfer News: Neymar Wants Huge New Contract, Latest Rumours

Christopher SimpsonApr 12, 2016

Neymar is reportedly hoping for a new contract with Barcelona that pays him "five times his current salary," a demand the club have "agreed to."Ā

That's according to AS (h/t Football Espana), with the Brazilian targeting a yearly wage of €45 million. His new deal will be confirmed in July, after the Blaugrana adhere to their club policy of balancing their books in June to ensure their "debt ratio" is "at a certain level."

On Monday, Football Leaks (h/t the Sun's Toby Gannon) alleged the forward receives £77,000 per week in basic wages. La Liga writer Andrew Gaffney shared further details:

That didn't stop him earning more than any other footballer save Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo last year, though. Bleacher Report UK lists him as third behind the pair, the figures provided byĀ France FootballĀ (h/t AFP viaĀ Fox Sports):

The 24-year-old's future has been the subject of much speculation in recent months with Antony Kastrinakis of the Sun reporting in February he would be subject to a bidding war between Manchester United and Manchester City, whileĀ Sports Illustrated'sĀ Grant WahlĀ included Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain among the interested parties.

The four clubs are perhaps the only other sides in Europe who could afford his services.

Neymar has been in top form this season along with Messi and Luis Suarez, coupling his dazzling footwork and ability to effortlessly ghost past players with incisive contributions in the final third, racking up 27 goals and 23 assists in all competitions.

Here are some of his best moments from the campaign:

The Camp Nou also has a lot more to offer the forward as he not only has the opportunity to collect countless trophies but also continue his development into the world's best—a mantle he looks likely to inherit from Messi some way down the line.

Barcelona will reportedly have a big impact on the future of another rising star in La Liga, Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez.

According to Hector Andreu of Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t the Daily Star's Jamie Anderson), the Catalan giants have "first refusal" on the midfielder and team-mate Javier Manquillo—a clause they "demanded" as part of the deal that sent David Villa to the Vicente Calderon in 2013.

This could scupper the plans of Manchester United, as Cadena Cope (h/tĀ Charlie PhillippeĀ of theĀ Express)Ā reported they were interested in his services. They aren't the only Premier League club chasing the midfielder as Arsenal and Liverpool are all interested in him, according toĀ Charlie PhillippeĀ of theĀ Express.

The versatile midfielder can play centrally or out wide and has enjoyed a strong campaign this season after cementing a place in Diego Simeone's side in November, bagging eight goals and two assists.

According to Squawka, in 21 La Liga appearances he has won 43 tackles and 46 headed duels, made 42 interceptions and 36 clearances. Gaffney is an admirer of his abilities:

Barca already have Sergio Busquets, but at just 21 Saul still has plenty of room to grow and could become a leading star in the future.

Further, the chance to prevent him heading to a rival club could be too good to pass up.
