Barca Reportedly Strike Marquinhos Deal
Saturday, April 9
"Marquinhos has reached an agreement with Barcelona but the European champions remain in negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain over the Brazil defender's transfer," according to Loic Tanzi, Ignasi Oliva and Bruno Andrade of Goal.com.
"Goal understands the centre-back has approved an annual salary of around €4.5 million, as well as a signing-on fee worth €3 million, after talks between the club and player held in Madrid," continued the report.
Marquinhos 'Humiliated' by Aurier Gamble
Friday, April 8
"L'Equipe report PSG's Marquinhos feels humiliated by Laurent Blanc's decision to start Serge Aurier ahead of him vs. MCFC on Wednesday," relayed French football writer Jonathan Johnson. "L'Equipe also add that it is certain that Marquinhos will ask to leave PSG this summer."
Aurier was making his first start for PSG since February following his indefinite suspension from the squad, imposed after he insulted manager Blanc and various team-mates in a Periscope video.
Blanc Yet to Show Faith in Marquinhos
French football writer Andrew Gibney found it a strange decision from Blanc to start Aurier over Marquinhos in such a big game.
And it was yet another indication that Blanc does not have complete faith in 21-year-old Marquinhos.
The young Brazilian has started just 14 of PSG's 32 Ligue 1 matches this season, per WhoScored.com, a poor return for a player who could be a guaranteed starter elsewhere.
Marquinhos once stated his ambition to play in the Premier League in an interview with Squawka's Greg Johnson.
He would be a good fit at a club such as Chelsea, who have been poor in defence this season and need an injection of verve and youth in their ageing back line.
It seems the latest snub may be the last straw for Marquinhos at PSG, and he could look to force a move away from the French capital three years on from his €32 million switch from Roma.
