2016 NFL Draft: Complete 1st-Round Order, Analysis of Top Prospects

Michelle BrutonApr 6, 2016

2016 college pro days have come and gone, which means NFL scouts and analysts have almost all the puzzle pieces they will need to begin finalizing their NFL draft big boards April 28-30.

Though pro days don't often dramatically shake up the prospect rankings, a stellar performance at one can help a prospect who has been struggling to break into the spotlight throughout the predraft process.

By that same logic, however, a poor pro day won't necessarily tank a prospect who has shone throughout the combine and interviews with teams.

Analyzing Top Prospects

Laremy Tunsil, OT, Mississippi

Height: 6'5"

Weight: 310 lbs

Mississippi product Laremy Tunsil, the most highly regarded offensive lineman in this year's draft class, did not participate in all the NFL Scouting Combine drills in February.

That made Tunsil's Mississippi pro day on March 28 an important event for the lineman, even though it was unlikely his performance would send him tumbling down the board. After all, the Tennessee Titans hold the first overall selection on April 28 and are in desperate need of tackle help.

At his pro day, Tunsil's vertical jump was 28 1/2 inches, his broad jump was 9 feet, 3 inches and he bench-pressed 34 reps of 225 pounds. Analysts were impressed; per CBS Sports' Dane Brugler, "he only solidified his position as the favorite."

A 5-star prospect out of high school, according to 247Sports, Tunsil is "the favorite" because of his clean technique, good instincts and NFL-ready skills.

Myles Jack, OLB, UCLA

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 245 lbs

Myles Jack was, pun completely intended, a jack-of-all-trades for the Bruins, but he projects to fit best outside in a 4-3 NFL scheme given his size.

Jack is an exciting prospect for any team looking to beef up its passing attack.

Though he tore his meniscus last September, causing him to only participate in the bench press at the NFL combine, teams that are in position to draft him would be foolish to shy away given his injury.

Despite still being in the rehab process, Jack impressed at his pro day with a 40-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot, 4-inch broad jump.

He also excelled in the positional workouts. "Beyond the testing, Jack went through positional drills and displayed the athleticism that could make him a top-five selection," wrote USA Today's Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz

DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon

Height: 6'7"

Weight: 291 lbs

Speaking of pass-rushers, DeForest Buckner is sitting atop NFL draft boards because of his improvement in that area with the Ducks in 2015.

In 2015, his senior year at Oregon, Buckner amassed 10.5 sacks, 17.0 tackles for loss and 83 total tackles.

If a team can develop his hands and perfect his technique, he could turn into a monster edge-rusher for years to come.

"He plays with explosive movements and terrific body control for his size, flashing heavy hands and initial power to be a disruptive force," wrote Brugler

Though he has all the traits of a 3-4 defensive end, Bucker is more versatile than that and thus will attract interest in the Round 1 early selections.
