Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jack Wilshere Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenApr 2, 2016

Reports from the British press claim Borussia Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan is “house hunting” in London ahead of a summer move to Arsenal, while West Ham United are planning a transfer of Jack Wilshere.

According to the Sun's Ken Lawrence, Mkhitaryan has rejected a new contract with Die Schwarzgelben worth £6.4 million per year as he's eyeing a more lucrative switch to north London, and the Gunners would be willing to meet his £8 million-a-year demands.

The report follows just days after Sky Sport Italia (h/t Football Italia) claimed his agent Mino Raiola had told Juventus the Armenia international would sign Dortmund's contract offer and continue his career at the Signal Iduna Park.

Mkhitaryan is enjoying the best season of his career since moving to the Bundesliga, showcasing all of the talent that convinced Dortmund to invest in his services in the first place, per WhoScored.com:

He has scored 10 goals and added 12 assists in the Bundesliga this season, playing a key role in Dortmund's resurgence after their disappointing 2014-15 season.

Manager Thomas Tuchel has brought the best out of the Armenian, who has been used in a wide variety of roles, both centrally and out on the wing. While he started his career as an attacking midfielder, he spends most of his time playing out on the right wing these days.

Per Bleacher Report's James McNicholas, his versatility would make him an excellent fit at the Emirates Stadium:

"

When looking at how he might fit into the Arsenal team, there are a mouthwatering array of options. He’s an incredibly versatile player who can operate from either flank or as a conventional No. 10. Wenger’s preferred option would surely be to implement Mkhitaryan into the three players who operate behind his centre-forward.

"

With Mesut Ozil pulling the strings from the centre of the pitch, Mkhitaryan would be handed space to drift inside the box and show his scoring abilities. That would hand the Gunners two fantastic scoring options out wide, with the former Shakhtar Donetsk man playing on the right and Alexis Sanchez on the left.

Here's a look at what Mkhitaryan would bring to the table:

Per Lawrence, Juventus and Liverpool are also interested in his services, but the claims he's looking for a house in London obviously point to a club from the capital. His contract expires at the end of next season, so if he doesn't sign a new deal with Dortmund, a summer move is likely.

Meanwhile, the Brentwood Gazette reported West Ham will try to sign Wilshere, luring him across London with the promise of regular first-team football.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined with an injury since last year's FA Cup final but recently took to Twitter to show his fans he's working his way back toward full health:

A swift return is needed for Wilshere, who is in real danger of missing the upcoming UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. If he can prove he's healthy and in-form, Roy Hodgson would be hard-pressed to not bring him to France, but other midfield options have emerged during the 2015-16 campaign.

With the likes of Tottenham Hotspur's Dele Alli and Everton's Ross Barkley in top form, Wilshere's starting position is in serious doubt. It's unfortunate for Wilshere, who remains one of England's top young talents, but frequent injuries have taken their toll in the last years.

When healthy, Wilshere still has the potential to be a dynamic force in midfield, capable of helping with build-up play, shielding the defence and scoring some outrageous goals as well. Per Sky Sports News HQ, his statistics show just how good he can be:

And while his injury struggles may keep him from going to France this summer, it's hard to see Arsenal giving up on him after he has spent the entire 2015-16 campaign on the sidelines. The Gunners have invested too much time in his rehabilitation only to sell him to a rival this summer.

Per the report, Wilshere grew up a West Ham fan, and if he fails to returns to his best next season, a move may be a possibility. But for now, Wilshere is more likely to stay where he is.
