WWE's Top Stories, Rumors and Buzz for Week of April 2

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 2, 2016

There is always a lot of news related to WWE, but this week was all about WrestleMania 32, NXT TakeOver: Dallas and the 2016 Hall of Fame ceremony.

The men and women of NXT made sure the main roster had their work cut out for them by delivering one of, if not the best TakeOver special ever.

The debut of Shinsuke Nakamura against Sami Zayn garnered universal acclaim from the fans in attendance and on social media, with chants like "fight forever" ringing throughout the arena.

Let's get right into the thick of it by reviewing the results from Friday's spectacular show.

TakeOver Takes Over

With two title changes and two big debuts, there wasn't a single person in Dallas who didn't jump out of their seat at least half a dozen times throughout the night.

Here is a quick rundown of what happened at TakeOver:

  • American Alpha defeated The Revival to become the new NXT tag team champions.
  • Austin Aries defeated Baron Corbin in his debut match.
  • Shinsuke Nakamura bested Sami Zayn in a Match of the Year candidate.
  • Bayley refused to tap out to Asuka, forcing the ref to stop the match and declare Asuka the new NXT women's champion.
  • Finn Balor successfully defended the NXT title against Samoa Joe in a bloody, physical encounter.

The amount of blood shed by Samoa Joe was on par with what we used to see during the Attitude Era, except he didn't have to cut himself with a razor to make it happen.

However, the match everyone was talking about when the show was over was Zayn vs. Nakamura. The King of Strong Style arrived in NXT with a lot of hype, and he showed everyone why he earned the reputation of being one of the best in the world.

If you didn't get a chance to see TakeOver: Dallas, cancel your plans and watch it immediately. It's well worth the time.

Former TNA Champion Appears at TakeOver

On a night when Aries and Joe, two former TNA world champions, were involved in matches, a third former member of the TNA roster made headlines by being shown in camera.

Bobby Roode was acknowledged by announcers at ringside, making a possible WWE debut in the future seem that much more likely.

Roode's former tag team partner, James Storm, wrestled a few times in NXT before making his way back to TNA, so it looks like a Beer Money reunion in WWE will have to wait.

There was a time when WWE talents were looking for a second chance in TNA, but it appears the roles have been reversed. AJ Styles, Aries and Samoa Joe gained most of their fame under Dixie Carter, and Vince McMahon is going to reap the rewards.

Final 2016 Hall of Fame Class

With the announcement that Snoop Dogg would be joining the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame on Raw, we now have our final lineup for this year's class.

He will join the likes of Stan Hansen, The Big Boss Man, Jacqueline, Sting, The Fabulous Freebirds, The Godfather and Warrior Award recipient Joan Lunden.

The HOF ceremony is always fun because we get to see our favorites let loose, be themselves and tell some interesting stories we may not hear anywhere else.

Sting is the headliner, but the Freebirds might be the bigger story. People have been wanting them to be inducted for years, and Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts will finally take their place among the greats.

WrestleMania Card Finalized

After Raw saw Eva Marie join Team Total Divas and Chris Jericho finally accept AJ Styles' challenge for a match, we have a full card for WrestleMania 32. Here is a look at what we can expect Sunday night.

  • Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
  • Team Total Divas vs. BAD and Blonde
  • The Usos vs. The Dudley Boyz
  • The New Day vs. The League of Nations
  • Kalisto vs. Ryback (United States Championship)
  • Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder vs. Sin Cara vs. Stardust vs. Sami Zayn vs. The Miz (Intercontinental Championship Ladder match)
  • Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks (Divas Championship)
  • Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar (Street Fight)
  • AJ Styles vs. Chris Jericho
  • Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker (Hell in a Cell)
  • Triple H vs. Roman Reigns (WWE World Heavyweight Championship)

Titles won't be the only thing on the line at Mania. If Shane manages to defeat The Undertaker, he gains control of Raw and Taker is gone from WWE.

Between pre-, main- and post-show coverage, we are looking at roughly seven hours of pro wrestling goodness on Sunday. Plan your meals and bathroom breaks accordingly.

Which match are you looking forward to the most at WrestleMania 32?
