Brandon Marshall Nominated for Sports Emmy for Work on Showtime
New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall isn’t just a superstar on the field. He is also an Emmy-nominated television personality.
Marshall took to Instagram on Thursday to announce he was nominated for an Emmy for his work on Showtime’s Inside the NFL:

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
"This year I had two professional goals: Win a Super Bowl and win an Emmy all in the same year. We are still in the hunt for the Lombardi Trophy but I am proud and humbled to announce that I am a step closer to the second.
Who could’ve guessed that I would be the first full time athlete and broadcaster, furthermore who could’ve predicted that I’d be in the same card as Jay Bilas, Al Leiter, Harold Reynolds, and Bill Ripken as 2016 Emmy Nominees for Outstanding Sports Personality?
"
Marshall also made sure to point out in the caption that this recognition is a testament to the work of his entire team at Showtime.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and NFL.com confirmed the pass-catcher was nominated in the category of “Outstanding Sports Personality-Studio Analyst” and said such a distinction was a “rarity for a current player.”
Connor Hughes of USA Today’s Jets Wire noted Marshall has worked alongside Adam Schein, Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms for the past two seasons with Showtime as a studio analyst. He provides his take on various topics across the league from a current player’s perspective and lends a unique view that many other football shows that largely rely on retired players do not enjoy.
Hughes praised Marshall for his ability to be honest and speak candidly on a number of subjects even though he is still in the league playing alongside many of the players he discusses. Here he is breaking down the sensitive subject of Greg Hardy last season, via Showtime Sports’ YouTube page:
On the field, Marshall is one of the best and most consistent wide receivers in the league. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and topped the 1,000-yard mark in eight of his first 10 seasons. He also rarely misses time with injury and has put up head-turning stats for the Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears and New York Jets throughout his career:
| 2006 | Denver Broncos | 15 | 20 | 309 | 2 |
| 2007 | Denver Broncos | 16 | 102 | 1,325 | 7 |
| 2008 | Denver Broncos | 15 | 104 | 1,265 | 6 |
| 2009 | Denver Broncos | 15 | 101 | 1,120 | 10 |
| 2010 | Miami Dolphins | 14 | 86 | 1,014 | 3 |
| 2011 | Miami Dolphins | 16 | 81 | 1,214 | 6 |
| 2012 | Chicago Bears | 16 | 118 | 1,508 | 11 |
| 2013 | Chicago Bears | 16 | 100 | 1,295 | 12 |
| 2014 | Chicago Bears | 13 | 61 | 721 | 8 |
| 2015 | New York Jets | 16 | 109 | 1,502 | 14 |
If the Jets are going to come through on Marshall’s second goal for the year of winning the Lombardi Trophy, they probably need to figure out who will be throwing him the ball. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for an impressive 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2015, but he is still a free agent and reportedly at a “standoff” with the team because of money, per Adam Schefter of ESPN (via NFL on ESPN).
If Fitzpatrick signs elsewhere this offseason, Marshall will surely talk about it at some point on Showtime.
