Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady Make WWE Main-Roster Debuts, Confront Dudley Boyz

Mike ChiariApr 4, 2016

One of the most popular tag teams in NXT history made the leap to the main roster Monday, as Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady debuted on the Raw after WrestleMania.

Raw went to a commercial break after The Dudley Boyz defeated The Usos in a tables match. After the commercial break, the popular tag team from NXT came to the ring to shock the Dallas crowd, per WWE:

The long-awaited debut of the star tag team started with Enzo making fun of the Dudleys, which included talking about the Dudleys' looks and lack of hair. Big Cass dared the Dudleys to come to the ring and answer the challenge, but the veteran tag team declined.

It didn't take long before Enzo wowed the crowd with his impeccable mic skills, and Bleacher Report's Ryan Dilbert thinks he's going to be great for years to come:

There was only one word to say from there, per WWE:

Enzo and Big Cass have been a team since 2013, and they established themselves as massive fan favorites in NXT with their infectious enthusiasm and entertaining gimmick.

The small, fast-talking Enzo is arguably among the best mic workers in all of WWE and routinely gets the live audience to repeat his entrance shtick, much like The Road Dogg did as part of The New Age Outlaws.

Big Cass may not be as outspoken as Amore, but he acquits himself well from a promo perspective and has the built-in advantage of being a 7-footer.

The team's potential is seemingly limitless, which is something WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin recently discussed on The Steve Austin Show (h/t Brandon Stroud of Uproxx.com):

"

Enzo has a ton of energy and is very charismatic. Big Cass, talk about a guy that is 7-foot there. And I like what Enzo says. He's talking about, 'You can't teach that' and that's a great catchphrase and it happens to be true. This kid's 7-foot, good looking kid, and pretty damn athletic. A real bright future for both of these guys, but, in particular, when you look at Big Cass, there is no ceiling for this guy if he keeps catching on like he has.

"

NXT fans have long felt the same way, and while that helped Enzo and Cass become key players for the brand, it may have also limited them to some degree.

The New York City connection never won the NXT Tag Team Championships despite challenging for them on a number of occasions, and the fact that the two were so over likely contributed, since they didn't need the titles to seem credible.

They fell short against The Revival multiple times, including losses at both NXT TakeOver: London and Roadblock. Those defeats paved the way for American Alpha to establish themselves as the top contenders to Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder.

While there was some disappointment among fans when they were unable to capture the gold, there was also optimism that it meant a main-roster call-up was on the horizon.

That came to fruition Monday, and WWE's tag team division may be more intriguing now than it has been in several years thanks to their inclusion.

Enzo and Cass bring a fresh act to the table, and they seem like perfect opponents for a number of teams on the main roster, including The New Day and The Dudley Boyz.

Both Enzo and Cass are 29 years old, which means they promise to be staples within WWE's tag team ranks for as long as the creative team decides to keep them together.

Although they never got the opportunity to carry the NXT Tag Team Championships, they have "multitime WWE tag team champs" written all over them, and it shouldn't be long before they find themselves in the thick of the title hunt.
