WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for March 24

Erik BeastonMar 22, 2016

The Beast returned to Boston on Tuesday night as WWE presented this week's SmackDown tapings in Beantown, and our friends at Wrestling Inc have all of this week's spoilers for you.

Brock Lesnar arrived to the blue brand to confront WrestleMania 32 opponent Dean Ambrose, but as the fans inside the TD Garden found out, an encounter with The Lunatic Fringe was not the only thing that awaited the former WWE World Heavyweight champion.

On the heels of Stephanie McMahon's announcement that Kevin Owens will defend his Intercontinental Championship against six of his fellow Superstars in a ladder match, the innovator of KO-Mania would team with one of those opponents, The Miz, to battle Dolph Ziggler and Sami Zayn in tag team action.

Would he right the wrong he feels was committed against him on Raw, or would the babyfaces ensure another sour evening for the champion?

Roman Reigns, No. 1 contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, was in action, and the feud between The New Day and The League of Nations wrote its latest chapter.

With only 10 nights until The Showcase of the Immortals, here's everything the company has in store for fans this Thursday on USA Network and what it means for the WWE Universe going forward.

Results

  • Sasha Banks defeated WWE Divas champion Charlotte in a non-title match. After the bell, Becky Lynch laid out both Divas. Banks recovered and delivered the Backstabber on Charlotte.
  • The New Day cut another promo on The League of Nations.
  • Sheamus defeated Kofi Kingston with a Brogue Kick after interference from Rusev and King Barrett. Alberto Del Rio was conspicuous in his absence.
  • The Dudley Boyz cut a promo with Renee Young in which they talked trash about the legendary Samoan competitors of WWE's past. Reigns interrupted, setting up a match between him and Bubba Ray Dudley for later in the show.
  • Zayn and Ziggler defeated Owens and The Miz. After the match, Sin Cara, Stardust and Zack Ryder prevented Owens from leaving. The action broke down between the competitors, and Ryder was left standing tall after a Rough Ryder to Owens.
  • Reigns and Bubba Ray Dudley fought to a double count-out. The fight ensued on the outside before Reigns delivered a spear to end the segment.
  • A backstage segment involving Goldust and R-Truth occurred.
  • Sin Cara and Kalisto discussed their matches at WrestleMania only to be interrupted by Ryback. Kalisto guaranteed victory over The Big Guy at the event.
  • AJ Styles defeated Tyler Breeze with The Phenomenal Forearm.
  • Lesnar and Paul Heyman ended the show. They called out Ambrose but were interrupted by The Wyatt Family. Ambrose and Lesnar took out the faction before The Beast Incarnate dropped The Lunatic Fringe with an F-5.

Analysis

For some reason, WWE felt the need to protect Bubba Ray Dudley from defeat as he battled Reigns to a count-out. That is the one match result that is most glaring from Tuesday's taping.

The match itself makes perfect sense considering the setup and the fact that Reigns is cousins with The Usos, who will battle The Dudley Boyz at WrestleMania. But given all the Superstars who have eaten spears and pinfall defeats at the hands of the two-time WWE champion, it seems mighty strange that the company's writing staff would opt to spare Dudley the defeat.

Speaking of defeats, Charlotte's loss at the hands of Banks is a nice surprise.

Typically, WWE does not give fans the pleasure of watching the hometown Superstar or Diva win a match. Tuesday night in Boston, The Boss scored a non-title win that preserves her winning streak and gives fans that feel-good moment they want so badly to enjoy.

Fans had the opportunity to enjoy another satisfying moment. Ryder was spotlighted on the road to his Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania, as he laid out Owens and was the last man standing.

His sudden interjection into the title picture was peculiar, to say the least, but with the right amount of booking, he has the opportunity to pick up momentum in the next few days and in the immediate aftermath of the big event.

At least on paper, Thursday's show looks to be better-paced with more fun than the episode of Raw that WWE Creative sleepwalked through on Monday night.

The involvement of The Wyatt Family in the main event angle keeps fans guessing as to what its role will be on April 3, while the presence of Lesnar lends credibility to the show.
