Is Brady Quinn's Career in Cleveland Over?

Nick SignorelliSep 27, 2009

OK, so maybe the first half of the Week three match up was not what Browns fans were expecting. Maybe Brady Quinn did not light the score board up. Maybe he didn't lead the team to where new coach Eric Mangini wanted it to be. Maybe he was not living up to the expactions that the Cleveland fans expected.

Brady Quinn started the game against the Ravens 6/8 for 34 yards, and one interception, for a QB rating of 42.7.

No, those are not great stats, but they could have been a lot worse.

As I predicted last week, Eric Mangini did not want Brady Quinn as the starter. After Quinns' first half performance against the Ravens, Mangini benched Quinn for Derek Anderson. How did Anderson do?

On his first drive of the second half, Anderson threw an interception, matching Quinns' first half total.

Anderson would go on to throw for 92 yards, on 11/19 passes, with two additional interceptions, and a QB rating of 30.9. I would say that his performance was worse.

You can look back at this a few different ways. You could say that either Anderson or Quinn should have been traded in the off season, possibly for Jay Cutler. You could say that they should have drafted Mark Sanchez instead of trading that exact pick to the New York Jets.

Anyway you look at it, the Cleveland Browns are now 0-3, again.

But rather than placing blame, the Browns need to decide which direction they need to go in. Do they think that either Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn can bring this seasons Cleveland Browns to at least a couple wins?

If not, do you start third stringer, Brett Ratliff?

With the events that have transpired today, it is obvious that Brady Quinn is not Eric Manginis' guy to lead this team into the future. It is also obvious that Derek Anderson does not have what it takes to be the franchise quarter back.

What I believe the Browns need to do, is to make a call to the Philadelphia Eagles. Offer either Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn, and Braylon Edwards to the Eagles for Donovan McNabb, right now.

Lets be honest, of the three people I suggested in the trade, Anderson, Quinn and Edwards, are any of them going to be in a Browns uniform next season?

Philadelphia signed Mike Vick to take Donovan McNabbs' place. McNabb is as good as gone in Philly. Philly would get the receiver they need, in Edwards, a decent back up in Anderson or Quinn, and Cleveland would get a QB that actually knows how to play the game.

With all of the draft day trades that Eric Mangini made, does it not make sense to bring in someone that can actually be a QB, that knows how to win, and needs a change of scenery?
