Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reported that Washington is open to re-signing Goldson.
Goldson Linked to Cowboys
Monday, March 28
Garafolo reported the Dallas Cowboys remain "interested" in Goldson.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported on March 15 that the two-time Pro Bowler was set to visit the Cowboys.
The mutual interest between Goldson and the Cowboys makes sense due to a tie between Goldson and one of Dallas' coaches during his tenure in San Francisco, per Jordan Ross of CowboysHQ.com:
The Cowboys secondary has been a major issue in recent years—it tied for 30th in the league with just eight interceptions last season.
Goldson may not make a significant difference on that front, but his leadership on the back end could be a huge addition to a Cowboys defensive backfield that has lacked it for quite some time.
Goldson Would be Dependable Signing
Goldson spent just one season in Washington before getting cut, and it was a productive 2015. He registered a career-high 108 tackles to go along with one interception in 15 starts.
It was a strong bounce-back campaign for the former first-team All-Pro after two subpar seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He performed at an elite level during a six-year stint with the San Francisco 49ers to begin his career, though, especially in 2011 and 2012 when he totaled nine interceptions.
Goldson may be slightly past his prime at 31 years of age, and there is no question that his ball-hawking has waned with just two picks in the past three seasons, but he can still be a useful contributor.
His produced top-notch tackling in 2015, and with a Super Bowl appearance to his credit, he brings the type of big-game experience that teams always seek.
